Looking for fresh perspectives on the city from younger generations! Fresh Perspectives is the youth program of Rotterdam Architecture Month and is organized by AIR – Architectuur Instituut Rotterdam. In one afternoon you will make a blueprint of the city of the future together.

Program

The afternoon starts with an inspiration talk in which programme maker Eva van Breugel (AIR) talks with Sammie Sedano (director MONO, founder Cult North). Sammie is closely involved with the city as an artist, has a vision of what the city should be to be a good place to grow up and is actively working on a culturally powerful city. How does he achieve his success in the city and what does the city mean to him?

After, four masterclasses are given that work on the same task: creating a blueprint of the city of the future. At the end of the afternoon, the results are shared with each other. All ideas will be bundled and published on the AIR website.

Masterclasses

• Social Design by Lily Higgins: Feel Good City

The way urban spaces are designed have a dirrect influence on how we feel and behave in the city. The theory behind this is called psychogreography. You’ll be an expert in it by the end of this masterclass. In this masterclass we’ll explore areas and reflect on how it makes us feel, discuss how we would like to feel in the city and use LEGO to build imaginary places in a future Rotterdam that makes us feel safe, happy and like we belong.

• Architecture by Zico Lopes: Palaces for the People

Together we look at the importance of so-called ”palaces for the people”: which places are of significance in the city, district and neighbourhood. What can be added? What can be made more accessible? Together we will work on this.

The program is suitable for everyone between the ages of 16 and 26. There are only a limited number of places available so register on time. You can register via this link.

Practical info

• If you visit this program, it is not necessary to buy a separate admission ticket for the festival heart. A ticket for this program already gives you access to the floating festival heart.
• Please report to the welcome desk of the Rotterdam Architecture Month at the square in front of the Maassilo. Here, scan your ticket and receive a wristband that will grant you access to the program in the floating festival heart. If you arrive 30 minutes before the start of the program, you can also take a route through the festival heart.
• IMPORTANT! Do not go directly to the floating platforms without a (program) wristband, as you will not be granted access.
